I need to get the tensioner off so I can change the pulley, though I let a friend borrow my 1/2" and the jackass left town and won't be back until tomorrow.

Is there any way that I could remove the tension to remove the belt? Also, since the tensioner is spring loaded, i'm not going to need to worry about the spring coming out or any thing like that when I pull it off, correct?

I'm not looking to go out and buy another 1/2" since I do have one. I just need to remove the tensioner to replace the squealing pulley:(

I wonder if I just pulled the 3 bolts (or however many there are) since they have to come off anyways, if that'll work

Surely someone can chime in to help out a dumbass:rlaugh:

I can't remember the size but all you do is take the bolts out. I want to say it was like a 12, 13, or 14mm ... been a while. You don't have to worry about any tension issues (when your belt is off there is not tension on the pulley to snap back) if that makes sense. I assume you probably know that but thought I'd clarify incase you didn't.

If you don't have any deep sockets I'd put on some gloves first because you will most likely bust some knuckles using wrenches. Get a bar or something sturdy that will fit over the end of the wrench to break them loose if you can't by hand.

Simple jobs like this usually kick my ass as proved today :)

One of the nuts got stripped, however I replaced it. It took me a bit to remove but now that I've done it, it's pretty simple. O'Reilly gave me the wrong part which put me in squeeze though once I got the right part everything worked out just fine :)

Did you change both of them? The idler pulley connected to the tensioner sounds like the one you changed (more difficult than the other pulley to change but not really difficult). Reason I ask is because I changed out only one of mine and the other one started that damn sqealing so I replaced it and no more issues. FWIW, the pulley is the same part as the one you replaced .. I'm talking about the pulley above it in case my post is confusing
