Quick! Which way does the sticky side of the t-stat gasket go?

Does it go towards the water neck over the t-stat against the water neck or does it go on the intake to hold the gasket on while the t-stat is installed or what?

I have an hour to get the info

mine went on the water neck to help hold the T-stat. I also smeared a thin coat of silicone on the other end to help seal it a bit too.

I siliconed both sides lightly... figure its an easy enough place to get to to scrape it off when it came time.
