Here is how I silenced my Triax:

Tools needed:
1. Electrical Tape
2. Teflon Tape
3. 1ft of Dynamat (or alternative)

Procedure:
1. remove shift knob and shift handle.
2. remove that rubber insulator POS. (dont need it)
3. wrap electrical tape around the shifter shaft.
4. wrap electrical tape around the shifter handle.
5. Poke holes thru the tape where the handle & shaft bolts together.
6. Attatch handle to shaft.
7. wrap electrical tape around the connected area.
8. wrap teflon tape around handle threads before attatching shifter knob.
9. lay down fatmat stuff all around base of shifter.
10. That's it! No more rubber insulator POS and purre silence

But dude, we both live in Arizona... Don't you think that the sticky stuff on the electrical tape is going to lose some of it's stick and get mushy in the summer? Especially if it's conducting heat from the Tranny...

Mine is a little noisier than stock but I can live with it. I may try this to see if I have just gotten used to the noise. Thanks for the tip.

If you can hear your shifter you need a louder exhaust and radio .

My Tri-Ax in my '88 made no more noise than the stock pos shifter.
