R.I.P GTO

I saw that announcement yesterday too. Its a shame, GM had a great opportunity to make the new GTO what it really deserved to be and they blew it horribly. COmpetition is always a good thing for the consumer and having something on the market to compete with the mustang would have been better than not having it.

Hey everyone, I have a great idea! Lets stop making the Trans/Am which everyone LOVES, and instead make a new GTO! We'll upgrade everything and then stuff all these awesome performance parts into something that looks like a Grand Am with dual exhaust! People will buy a ton of them and we will crush Ford, the Mustang will never compete!

You have dodge making badass cars

Well, they do have the SRT-4, which is a great tuner car. The Viper is something most people cant afford and seems to be in a leauge all by itself (price-wise) and the Charger is just :notnice: Maybe they will redeem themselves with the Challenger

Sold my 94 vert for a new GTO, and the only thing I miss is the convertible top. I will be putting in a moonroof soon. :D

I agree that the styling is very subjective, many like it and just as many, if not more, hate it. However, it is hard to argue with the ride comfort, the excellent interior, interior room, and the performance. I believe that these are all better in the GTO than in any current mustang. (Save the cobra, which, in stock form, barely nudges out the GTO in the performance category, IMHO)

I really tried to get an 03/04 cobra vert, but I just couldn't get past the dated interior, the noise, and the tiny back seat. (I have a little girl).

Flame away, but this is just one recent ex-stang owner's humble opinion.

Regards,

Gary

Couldn't have said it better. The first time I saw one, I seriously thought "Hey, check out the new Grand Prix. . ."

I don't understand it. How did they not notice how PLAIN it looked???

to me, that is its most admirable quality.

in this day where "edgy", "retro", "whip-tastic", "pimped" i feel it was very refreshing to see a conservative styling show up. after all, conservative styling with big power under the hood is paying homage to the GTO name.

just too bad it did not take.

I see your point ben, and I agree the "pimped" look has gone way too far. Perhaps "plain" styling wouldn't be that bad, but the fact that it looks very similar to the Grand Prix and Grand Am is retarded. They could have made it look DIFFERENT, and still retained clean lines and conservative styling. Oh well, guess it doesn't matter much now, huh?

i hear the complaint about the similar looks to other vehicles and i do agree that it shares a very strong resemblance to the cavalier, gp, etc...

i think the biggest point we are forgetting is the price. MSRP was like $33k

if they made them for 10 years i would have bought a 2005 in 2009, but now every chowder head is gonna think they got a ZL1 camaro and will want way to much for what it is.

Matt--as long as mercedes still owns chrslyer i will never look forward to a new product as it will never have a stick, and for that they must die a most painful death

If you ask me, they screwed the 06 GTO up even worse. In an effort to "spice up" the styling they tacked on hood scoops and mucked up the hood so bad I thought it was damaged on the show car I saw at the Detroit auto show. So good riddance.

I LOVE the interior of the GTO's...i was looking at them at the dealership the other day. Though, i wouldnt ever buy one.

I think Dodge is doing very well with the Charger...its not what a car guy would want, but those things are selling like hot cakes. Atleast around here they are.

If GM cuts the GTO...then i would like to hope they are planning on the camaro...and they need to bring the trans am back. But make the damn things close in price to the mustangs for crying out loud.
