Anyone on here do a 347 buildup w/high compression?
Working out the details right now with a local race shop for a 14-1 compression solid roller motor but just curious as to what you got out of one. Right now I have out of the box Victor Jr. heads that they think they are going to do some porting to and change my cam/pistons. (I'm 7.5-1 right now) Kinda some ruff talking of 7500-8k redline (does have a R302 block) I know most of ya dont go this route, but I havent been around the forum much so kinda looking for info.

I would go do some searching over on hardcore50 forums

You'll find more race engine combo's over there..

Tons of good info on 302W and 351W stroker buildups...

HAVE YOU SEEN A 302 block?

the factory 302 block isn't quite as great. i was in your exact shoes 2 yrs ago. stroke the 302 or go to a 351W? The 351W has bigger main bolts, has its bores more solidly cast, and has large head bolts. All in all, it is a stronger block, which is why i decided to just do a 351W instead of taxing a 302 block with a 347 stroker kit, IMHO

Ya, I have an R302 block. Not all that concerned there.

the R block would be great for that motor, however I don't know why you included the word "street" in the thread title!

I would work out getting a custom cam from Ed Curtis or Buddy Rawls or someone along those lines when dealing with a motor like that. Compression can make or break a race motor and we had a few in the shop that picked up next to nothing going from 11:1 to 14:1. So you would definetly have to plan out your setup before throwing some compression at it.

If you are doing this type of motor I would have the heads ported or look into running something bigger.

Ya, the shop thats doing the buildup has done quite a few for the local drag racers. (They do quite a few sb fords) The heads will probably be done also, that was suggested by him also. As for cam, I'm going to rely on them since they are or seem quite capable of building a good motor.

Street, well it will be drivin now and then on the street, but I have tons of cooling and fuel mileage I could care less about. My 6-71 blown motor made lots of heat and drank fuel like it was going out of style. Its just for fun, I dont really drive it that much.


The other nice thing is we are going to dyno it on their engine dyno to make sure all is good before I take her home. If something seems soft or off we will make adjustments there while its out of the car.
