Raced my brothers 07 GT

oh dont get me wrong its way more than a stock 4.6 but when i get in his car and drive it and nail it from a 2nd gear roll at around 30 it doesnt pick up as hard as mine does. I know my gearing makes a huge difference. it also seems slower to me atleast cause it cant spin at all in 1st unless teh clutch is dropped. obviously it has low end though if he stayed right next to me from a roll on at 10 mph. they pick up hard at 3grand and then pull all the way till redline which is what i like about them. My 2v dies at about 5k.

The seat of my pants told me my 02 was faster down low too (and it just had the stock gears. My 05 has the standard 3.55 gears, but I think 3.55 is an option for 07)
I don't know why it felt faster. The 05 is much more civilized under power, and the windows are higher up, so I think those 2 things combine to provide the illusion.

Next time you drive his car, benchmark it on a freeway on ramp against the light poles. I couldn't 80km/h in my 02 by the first pole on a particular ramp, but can hit mid 80s passing that same pole in my 05.

That would be a dream to race at an airport on the strip. Minus the planes of course.

Meeehh, it's not as great as you'd think.

They close down a couple of the local strips here a couple of weekends a summer to run their "North Shore Challenge" sanctioned drag events. They aren't allowed to seriously prep the ashvault for maximum traction, since it is after all a runway strip the other 362-days a year and not a real race track. Without the VT compound or some rubber residue laid down over the first 60ft that can only be attained by multiple runs, the air strip isn't actually any better than running your car on any other piece of ashvault. The only nice thing about is, is that you don't need to worry about getting busted by the fuzz, or having some jackass in a hidden driveway pull out in front of you. ;)

I am still waiting for my husband to race me in his 06. He keeps promising... (he so far has added an SLP axle back and JLT CAI, SCTxcal2 with Brenspeed tune). I have driven both cars with the current mods, and I am probably wrong, but my car still feels faster to me... tho I think it's just cause his feels less like a "muscle car"... If we ever actually do race, I'll post... hoping to get to the track this spring for the first time, so maybe I'll convince him to go too.

yea i think the 05+ are just a more tamed pony. Ford found a way to harnass the power some instead of just burning it up through tire smoke.

Theres an old abandoned crop duster strip out in the country about half an hour from where i live. You have to drive down a canal bank to get to it and its in a depression in the ground so you cant see it from the highway. If you go out there on a friday or saturday night there will be about thirty cars out there, most of them slow ricers but theres always a couple of fast cars. Airports are the ****!!
