Hey all, I am signed up for a lapping day at my local track (High Plains Raceway), and I am required to have a helmet... wondering if anyone knows where to get one, and what type I should get. I am just looking for something cheap that will meet the requirements of the track. I cant find specific requirements listed on their website, so I am hoping all race helmets are basically the same. I would try and see if they have some at the track to rent, but I have a big head and the track is new, so it is doubtful.

I bought mine from Jegs. It's made by Zamp. It was about the most reasonable one I could find.

Most tracks require SNELL2000 or better. I'd start there (or go even better in safety), find something that fits properly, then go for looks after that.

+1 I got the Snell closed face helmet for about 200 dollars and it's SA2005 certified. ONly thing It doesn't have is the attachment points for the HANS device but i doubt most here will need that. (pictured in signature)

before that one I had the G-Force SA2005 open faced which was pretty good but I opted for a closed face because it had a bad habit of squeezing the cheeks a bit too hard and didn't do much if you decided to eat the steering wheel during a crash.

thanks for the info. It now occurs to me that I'll probably have to try on several helmets before I can purchase one. I have always had a hard time finding headgear. At least now I'll know to find the SA2005/Snell2000 certified, that was the info I was looking for.

Do they require SA2000 or M2000? Slightly different, and the M2000 are cheaper. Most auto-x just require the M2000 or dot approved, and track days may require SA2000.
