from those of you who have converted to rack and pinion...did you get the power rack or the manual? im trying to decide what i want to get. im a younge guy and i dont mind a lil tuff steering. its probably better than what i have now(blown out factory powersteering on a 65 coupe). is the manual rack and pinion better than the factory power? load me up with info. thanks

It's all personal preference

I got the power rack. Mainly cuz my wife drives the car occasionally, though since the new motor went in she's afraid of it.
Ask yourself how you are going to drive it.
I once watched an interview with a F1 driver, Arie Lyundyke I think. He said that he never used powersteering in his race cars. His theory was that the other guys that were used to power steering would not be able to finish a race if the PS pump went out, and he'd have and edge over them.
If your building a track car this may be something to consider.
You have to love the simplicity and lack of crap hanging off the front of the engine with manual steering.
If your young, have a limited budget and can hack it go manual. Put the money in HP or traction.
As for Me, I'm old and my wife has my nutz in her purse so I got PS and AC.

the onyl reasons i would use power steering are;

1: i also install hydroboost power brakes.

2: the car came with power steering

3: i am driving a full size truck, especially if i am doing a fair amount of towing.

4: if i ever get married(if i do please shoot me:D:D) and the wife will drive the car.

i like to do canyon runs and driving around corners, turns etc. im building the car to handle. ive delt with my blown out powersteering for a cpl years now and its not bad till i really wanna hit a corner hard, but i have alot of slop in my wheel from both the blown out problem and a worn gearbox.

i dont mind getting the non power rack as long as it works better than what i have

Whick Rack did you get? Any problems with the install or with the turning radius?

Randalls Rack.
Install went flawless. The turning radius is less than original. It doesn't bother me though because of the way I drive my car. I blast down the back country roads around here, and occasional trips to the strip. If I did a lot of parking lots or city driving it might bother me.
