radar detector mod

This can be done if you have allready done the fog light mod.

I bought another factory fog light switch and installed it were the convertible top switch goes. Forgot which pins are what on the switch. I do know there is and ACC, +12V, GRD, and Headlight signal. Made my own wiring harness and spliced in to fog light wires. Then cut cigarette lighter connection off radar detector. Mounted detector above rear view mirror and ran wire down a pillar and through console to switch. Connected +12V to ACC on switch and ground to any common ground. Can't remember where for sure.. probably on the switch. Now my radar detector is switched and comes on only when the key is on and switch is on plus the lights in the switch work just like the fog light switch. Great for quickly turning off the radar detector in town. Also don't have to worry about unplugging it. Will try to get wiring diagram if I can find it. Hope this is useful to someone.

I got mine fused into the ignition at a car audio place for like 15 dollars does pretty much same thing except u cant turn it on and off. it turns on and off when u start the car

Maybe I confused people a little when I said it works if you have done the fog light mod. It will still work if you don't but you need to get your +12v for the switch from the convertible harness and just remember to connect your hot to detector to ACC on the switch. The rest you just splice into corresponding wires on the factory fog light switch. This makes the detector come on when you turn the ignition on as long as the switch is on. I mounted my detector where I did because I have to go on base every day and they make you take it off if they can see it.... hehehe.

Wow man that sounds awesome I'm definetly gonna do this when I get me a detector. Sorry for going off-topic, but whats the foglight mod yall are talking about?

Its for 94-98's. the fog lights only work with the headlights on. There is a way to get them to work without turning on headlights but retains the factory switch. If you have a coupe you tap into the convertible harness for power.

That mod can also be done if you have a convertible!
