radio bezel/gauge holder, radio on bottom gauges on top?

My gauges are more important to me so the closer they are to view the better... can I turn this plate upside down and mount the radio on the bottom and the gauges on the top? i know it may make it hard to change the CDs but I use mp3 disks so don't really change all that often..

Im with you....I would put the therm controls on the bottom, gauges on top!

He just wants to flip the plate so the gauges sit above the radio.

I can't think of why you cannot do this. Is there room for the radio that close to the bottom of the console?

You could also get some of the AM bezels that angle the gauges towards the driver's seat if you want.

You would just need to be sure that the trans tunnel doesnt block the back of the radio. I dont think it does, but do a test fit prior to installing the gauges.

there should be plenty of room, when i took my interior out to change carpet there was the factory amp still behind the "cubby hole" under the radio, im thinking that stuff would be about the same depth as a cd player. try it, if it dont work switch it back and report back, save someone else the trouble of trying it.

Gonna have to go against the crowd on this one... The radio will hit the trans tunnel and carpet. I tried this on my '91 and couldnt make it work without cutting a square out of the carpet. Rather than hacking through a brand new ACC Mass Back black carpet, I decided to just leave the gauges on the bottom. Maybe it's just me though

is that the thicker carpet? might have something to do with why it was harder for you to do it..

I tried this in my 90 7UP with the factory carpet and the radio hit the trans tunnel....

For me.. 91lx.. with MY aftermarket radio.. it did NOT fit with the radio on the bottom.. it actually didn't feel like it fit at all.. so installed it the way its pictured here.. and actually still pretty easy to see the gauges.. I plan to swap out the cluster with a Florida 5.0 cluster and move all the non-critical gauges (fuel level, voltmeter, etc..) down there and keep the important gauges (water temp, oil pressure, etc..) in the cluster at eye level so I can see it real time while driving without having to look down..
