There are many aftermarket radios made to fit the stock radio plate in the car, you don't have to cut anything. You can also get the special stock speakers and grilles, to fit perfectly in the space provided in the doors.

Like was just stated, you can get an aftermarket retro styled radio that fits the dash.

You can also do this, and keep the OE bezel so you can put an original or OE style radio in later if desired.

You can get the plastic radio bezel from most Mustang shops. You can cut a regular one or get this one mad for a DIN CD player.

If you just want a good radio and speakers, then I would put it in myself. Its fairly easy to do. Its just a little wiring.

I would just get 2 pairs of decent speakers that fit the provisions. I don't know what size the speaker provisions are. Maybe someone with more knowledge of the 71-73 cars knows. I would use grilles or covers that look factory though instead of the goofy looking grilles that come with most of the speakers these days.

You don't have to go with these but they are good examples.

These should work in the front doors. They are also 2 way so they should sound decent.

I do not like the idea of mounting the radio in the glove box. It is not reachable while driving. In my opinion it is a safety issue. Also, I just don't like it. You would have to leave to glove box open to see what the stereo is doing.

I would just buy new speakers and run new wires. That way you can clean up the mess and run them neatly. Just make sure they don't get pinches etc.

I believe the cut outs for the door measure 4x8, rectangular, the grills can be had in most part mag's, mac's is a good place, as far a stero placement i have my stereo mounted underneith the glove box useing a deck mount available at crutchfield, i have it slightly faceing the driver using a IR hand remote.they also make hi fi speakers for under the dash. if you remove the factory deck panel in the rear you will also find i believe four cutouts for speakers, 2 4x8's 2 6x9's. you can measure the factory panel and make your own with a thin board, home depot has the material,make your holes cover in marine carpet and install

Years ago somebody tried to steal the shaft mounted style radio out of my 69 Cougar, and effed up the lower part of the dash. It will probably never be "square" again.
I bought a Din style Pioneer stereo, and one of those replacement face plates.
Some of the best money I've spent on that car!
Car stereo on that level is really easy to do, I wouldn't pay to have it done.
You can do it your self, and save the coin for more better speed parts down the road...

Call best buy and ask them what they will charge. It might be free if you buy from them, but they also have a range of fee's depending on how difficult it is too.
