Radio Problems ????

My factory radio stopped working on my 1991 LX 5.0 convertible. I tried another used factory radio still no sound. On both units everything lights up, but no sound. I can even hear the rollers turning when I put in a cassette tape. All fuses at fuse box have been checked and are working. Awful strange that all 6 speakers do not work!!

I disconnected the amplfier that was behind the radio(it had 2 plugs), reconnected the radio plugs and still no sound!! I thought by disconnecting amplifier, radio should work, WRONG!!

I want to get an after market CD receiver. Will I still use the factory amplfier that I have or can I throw it out. (I don't know if its working or not).

Also, will the aftermarket radio connect to the amplifiers plugs that I disconnected or to the radio's plugs that connect to radio?

Will I have to do any cutting or does everything hook up to existing plugs?

Thanks

Larry

But, if I use a bypass harness on my new aftermarket receiver, will all of my 6 factory speakers work?

Does the bypass harness connect to the factory radio connections, (1 black, 1 grey), or to the amplifier connectors,(2), that I removed off the stock amplifier?

Thanks

Larry

Yes they should if you get the correct by-pass connectors. If I remember correctly the fronts are tied together anyway after the connection, but I could be wrong.

But they will work. Give Cructhfield a call they have very nice connectors they make themselves, not that junk that you get at Wally World.

The factory head unit does not have powered speaker outs is why it has the amp in the first place. If you buy an aftermarket, you could by non powered, if you want to run a full aftermartket amp setup. Most people stick with powered head units as they are usually cheaper and are just as good for listening through you normal speakers.

You could run all new wire instead of the by-pass as well.
