Raised my own "bar" with new track and dyno numbers

I ran my ET streets with 20lbs of air. I know most people think that is too high of pressure to run, but the car is nice and stable at high speeds and it still hooks fairly well. Honestly I didn't want to lower it after the 12.1 at 112.5mph pass as I didn't want to lose any MPH by letting more air out of the tires. Had I know I was only going to get one more run i would have. I thought I'd have had 2-3 more after the 12.1 but breakdowns killed any chances of that. I never measured them, but I can assure you they are no where near 11" but I'll check today to make sure.

Well, maybe they are smaller than advertised..i was thinking wider. Hell i may even be thinking of another tire all together,lol.

Those times are extremely impressive. The 1/8th miles times are incredible too. So whaddya think - new ET Streets + adjustable UCA's + a sticky mineshaft = 11's? If that won't work, I'll have my slicks.

With all due respect to Willy over at the Corral, it's my opinion that your car still sits "atop" the bar. With probably 15-20 less degrees of duration (just guessing), a stock struts and shocks, and a "small" manifold, you doing a damn good job of "keeping up".

I think with some more aggressive launching you would easily be in the 11's... Don't know if i would try that on that wide of a tire though.

I have found that with good slicks or cheater slicks shorter and narrow will get you by fine with less chance of damage. i run 8.5 x 26 15's. And have yeilded high 1.5's with 20psi and low 1.5's with 13 psi

How are you launching? I know when i run its 1st light rev up to 3 grand or so, second light floor it and third light drop the clutch and let her eat. Even when i was NA that yeilded me some low 1.6's (w/ lowering springs and thats it for suspension and lowering springs hurt you far as that goes).. But again i emphisize on having shorter narrower tires.

Far as track experience i know i don't have anything close to what you do but something must be right cause it took me only a few trys to reach the numbers i have and im still on my stock tranny and diff.

Also if this is your goal, you have to be willing to take the chance let the air of the tires and let her eat good once or twice. My best MPH was on less air pressure. Yeah the car feels like its floating a little going down the track but thats not really a big deal at all.

I'm convinced that there's enough air/fuel tweaking left to easily hit 11's...even if you don't launch at 6 grand or power shift...See ya in April...

NoSlo- I measured my ET streets and they are only 8-3/4" wide, and I don't even know if I'm getting that much as they are "coned" out (like a motorcycle tire) in the center, but they do have 20lbs of air in them too.

Joe- the suspension looks to be the next purchase. I figure if I could go a 12.23 at 112.4mph with a 1.75 60, I got a lot more left, and after watching how pitiful my launches look, I know that to be true. I hope to have the video up with sound soon. Maybe next time you can swing by with your slicks!!!

Willie- THANKS! I think its great that you and I are running what we do in cars that most people wouldn't think for a second could break out of the 13's! Keep up the good work! I can't wait to see what kind of numbers you get out of your planned stroker combo! Is that in the works yet?

Moneypit- as I said above, my 26X10.5X16 ET streets only measure ~8-3/4" wide MAX on my 16X7" stock waffle wheels. I have two launch methods... a QUICK slip, and a LONG slip and I used both this weekend. The quick slip yields the better 60's if the tires hold, which is about 50% of the time, where as my LONG slip almost always holds. On my 12.1 run I used the LONG slip method (as if I was launching on drag radials). If I quick slip it the rear squats too fast and hard and then unloads the rear tires when the rear recoils back up. I need to work on that. I launch at 4500rpms. I rev it to 4500 as soon as I and the other car as both staged. I do not keep feeding in the throttle, I just hold it at 4500. I will try less air pressure next time out.

Bob- after looking at the dyno graphs some more, there is definitely more power left in it. I wish we would have made 1 more pull with leaning it out just a hair more up above 5000rpms. I hope to have the graphs scanned tomorrow and will put them up here so you and others can see what happens with the A/F ratio in the upper revs.

I guess it was the et streets i was thinking of...they're just advertised way smaller than they are..instead of wider. Why in the world would a 10.5 tire only measure 8 3/4? Either way..thats still kinda pushing it for a 7" rim and getting the cone effect you're reffering to. Lower air pressure may help it tho...don't worry about the sway at the big end, nothing that jumps up on you and is easily handled.

So your "secret" to these times are these quick ass 60's? Dont you have stock suspension? You pulled that 1.6 with Nittos?

Its really no secret, your ET for the most part is made up by the first 60'. The car always hooks fairly well, but its heavy as hell too which helps for traction, but it also slows me down as well. My best time ever on nitto drag radials was a 12.3 at 110mph with a 1.67 60'. My best on 4-5yr old (ie, HARD) ET Streets is a 12.1 at 112mph with a 1.66 60'. It took me a LONG time to learn how to launch on drag radials and it involves slipping the clutch out instead of dumping it. I found out this weekend that the ET streets are the same as I only used my "slip" method once and it yielded the best ET of the day. If I do a quick slip (close to a dump) of the clutch the suspension is just too soft and the rear squats way too much and then the springs lift the rear back up and I spin. You are correct, I do run on the stock suspension. All of it is 100% as delivered by ford in 1995 except for Global West LCA's and subframe connectors. As soon as I get my videos up with sound you'll see what I mean.

Fawcett- THANKS MAN! Its been a bumpy road to get to this point, but seeing what you wrote and realizing that I have accomplished almost all of my goals I couldn't be happier. I've set a lot of goals for my car and so far I've been blessed enough to hit all but one, but I'm not that far away from that goal. It took me 7 years to get to this point, but I don't plan on ever getting rid of the car so who knows where it'll be in the next 7 years.
