I ran codes today with a paper clip, did the KOEO and KOER test. The KOER test I got "111" which means System Ok. In the KOEO test I got a few flashes. I counted "85" two times, it make 8 fast flashes then a pause, then 5 more flashes, then a pause, then 8 again and then 5 again. So thats telling me "85" and it showed the code both times. I think that means its a hard fault but im not 100% sure, what confuses me is what Code 85 stands for. I looked it up and came up with something to do with auto trannies? Could someone help me with that, and is that what Code 85 is? After the Code 85 got thrown I got a few "11" code flashes, which means System Ok on that. So can someone explain what this code 85 is? Thanks

Did you remove your canister purge control valve for the charcole canister? Or it may be bad or unplugged.

If you look at the 85 description it says M for memory and says CANP solenoid (ALL 1989) - Solenoids

Well if the computer isnt showing codes, then I dont know what my problem is.

Seems the car just dont want to idle for anything. I set my TPS today and checked my timing and ran codes. Both came up good and the Timing was set to 10*.

I am out of ideas and test. The car has a VERY choppy idle and is only reading about 12 inches of vaccum on the gauge at idle. If I rev the car up to any RPM on rev down the car will go as low as 300rpm then shoot back up. Tomorrow when I go out and start it, the first two times it will die no matter what, then on the third time it will run. Im just confused as hell right now.

I done that last week and I had the car to a seemingly good idle position. Its raining like hell out and its dark so im going to wait till tomorrow. I will redo that again now that I have adjusted my TPS to the correct setting. I will do all that tomorrow and let you guys know what goes on.

U got alot of mods tho dave. Did you custom tune and get a chip yet? I bet thats what you need to do.
Nope, havent done it yet...mainly becuase no one around can do that for me actually. I have a dyno close by but they cant burn chips.

One I get the idle figured out I should be ok. I have a few friends that done work like I have and they dont have a single problem. Must be something that messed up on me and I havent caught it yet. Just takes time.

I am going to hook all my esmissions stuff back up though. I hooked that soleniod back up and reset the computer and its still throwing the cod. So im going to hook everything back up and if it still throws it, im clueless. I dont think it hurts the cars performance though. I just need to get it running smooth and drive it straight for a few days and I think it will be fine.(hopefully)

Ok, I went out to give the car a new idle like suggested above. If the IAB is bad will it throw a code? Becuase the car just acts like it doesnt want to check an idle. When I had the car running I unplugged the IAB and the idle never changed. I am going to take it off and give it a cleaning and see if that helps it. At idle the car jumps around, it will go from 700-900 rpm in spurts. What is causing this? Damn car.

No, I am pretty sure the IAC won't throw a code. 2 of my friends and I were chasing down a idle problem too. We were using on IAC from what we thought was the "good" car, and it didn't help, so we gave up. The "good" car's owner sprang for a new IAC on a whim, and wouldn't you know, the car runs like a charm now. I guess the IAC goes out so slowly that you think the car is running great, when really its running like crap. When my friend called me to tell me the news, from the tone of his voice, I would have sworn he was going to tell me that had just gotten laid.LOL.

Just read my post and it sounds kinda of confusing. I was just trying to comment that the IAC is likely the cause for many a bad idle, and at under 50 bucks for an aftermarket piece, its worth taking the chance. Especially considering how irking a bad idle is. GL

I am pretty sure that is my problem. Like you say, it goes downhill slowly. I got it running about as good as possible right now, still just a few misses and little things. Pretty sure a new IAC will clear me up to just perfect. Thanks guys.
