I'm looking into swapping a 5.0L into my 1998 Ranger (4-cyl)... for a track only car.

I'd like to keep the EFI.. but would go Carb if I have to.. any stand alone systems fit the bill?
Which year 5.0L would be best (I get Ford Parts at Dealer + 10%) so if any are better than the others - which one and why?
Also- as for tranny & rear I'm thinking auto.. any recommendations?
