I get a rattling sound and smoke in my 94 GT vert when I punch it. It only last a couple of seconds but its embarrasing. Is this what people mean when they say these cars have a pinging sound problem? Thanks for any input.

i doubt it, the pinging sound sounds like you have marbles tapping around in your engine, but its usually pretty quiet...and that can occur under any load, even if it isnt floored. i think we're gonna have to have more information about the problem before we give you a complete answer. what color smoke? etc. i think for now the only answer i can give is.... that sounds to be "not good"

Not meaning to hi-jack, but my car too has the "rattle when you floor it." I think mine might be a pinging issue, seeing as how my BBK catted x-pipe is only 2 years old and I have not driven the car all that much.My timing is not advanced all that far, maybe 2*. The smoke as far as I can tell is black, which would lead me to think it is just exhaust. Could it be the EGR tube, or maybe a bad O2 sensor???

Sorry I haven't replied. The smoke is gray and I don't have cats, I have off-road bbk pipe.
