well its blower time, i got some cash finally. i am between the vortech and the saleen. i want to have about 420hp. this is my daily driver, so it needs to be reliable, and i am not planning on running crazy boost levels. i was thinking the saleen, with a different pulley, and the cobra injectors. which would be the right pulley for this hp output? or the vortech SQ. i dont like how the vortech does not come with an cooler, while the saleen does. the vortech with the cooler is like 9 grand. is there a way to add a cooler to the SQ kit? of these 2 setups, which is going to be less stress on the engine? i am kinda leaning towards the saleen, since it is installed on cars that are sold thru for with a warranty. help me out i wanna order it ASAP.

I would personally go with the Saleen or the kenne bell. I prefer twin screw over anything else. The Saleen is definitely the best looking supercharger out there and with the Saleen tune you will get 435 hp with the stock pulley.

i would personally go with the saleen. the only problem with the warranty on the blower is that a FORD DEALER has to install it for the warranty to be in effect. i dont know many dealerships that would do a good job on this one.

i would much rather install it myself. i know it would be done right that way.

I like the Vortech myself, and the aftercooled one is nowhere near 9 grand..More like 4500 retail. I have the vortech and it put down 431 at the tire and i drive 60 miles a day and am getting 28mpg on the hwy!..Docile as stock when yo want it to be.I drove an 05 with a saleen on it and It was ok, but I was not impressed...that is just my opinion though. Plus if you decide on the vortech let me know. I will make sure you get the best price avail on one. My best friend is a master vortech dealer, does all the work on my car and does alot of special projects for them so he gets some great deals. Send me a PM if you decide to go that way.. I will be happy to help you out

That's Kenny Brown, not Kenne Bell. Two completely different companies.

A positive displacement blower will give you more low eng grunt which is what you want for daily driving. If PEAK bhp is your goal then a centrfugal blower is the better bet.

But a twin screw blower will produce more power more of the time (on a like for like basis).

Plus, it just looks so cool to have a big blower sitting on top of the engine.

ok im going with saleen.
if i run the 3.60/7.5# pulley, with the 39# injectors and a lightning MAF, with a safe tune from mustang magic, this will be a safe setup for daily driving? or should i go with the 5.5# pulley? how much hp will the 7.5 put out approx?

To bad you won't actualy be able to buy one for six months minimum they completley lost the contract to buy the blowers from lyscholm

they are now in the proces of building there own .. but they have to build enough for the kits they already make and sell curently wich are all on back order due to this..

you wont see a whipple on a retailers shelf till the end of this year at the earliest.

Vortech all the Way

Vortech is a great unit and very streetable, Saleen will not produce the high end hp. Also, these people talking big numbers like 450 rwhp with just a blower are full of it. Look at my thread on handling and see what I got. On an absolutely accurate dyno (dynapack which hooks up to the axles) I got 424 rwhp and 384 lbs of rw torque. That's approx. 487 fly wheel horse and 440 fly wheel torque. I have high flow TB and jba long tubes, hpipe with high flow cats and magnaflow axleback. Sounds nasty and is total a beast at curb weight around 3550-3600. Best argument for vortech though is that the guy that runs the very hi tech and comprehensive performance shop at Galpin Ford (largest ford dealership in the U.S.A.) could have a Saleen but has Vortech on his GT. If you want Superior HP + Streetable than go Vortech.

I agree that a centrifugal type blower should make more PEAK bhp, but since when has PEAK numbers been the main aim. For 80-90% of the rev range a twin screw blower will be producing a lot more power. Max boost is avaiable from idle, where as a centrifugal isn't going to be producing max boost until very high in the rpms.

Centrifugals are good, but a twin screw will not be far behind in PEAK numbers, a Roots style blower is totally different however.

Ah, you must be talking about Steve McCord @ Galpin. Nice guy! He will actually be doing some B&M business with me soon. Where did you get your kit done at? My #'s are almost identical to yours and I too have many additional mods done to the car....Headers,TB,Exhaust etc etc.

Hello,
If you would like more information in regards to the Saleen supercharger please call 800-888-8945 ext 842.

The basic bolt on unit will take your vehicle to about 435 hp to the flywheel. the install is smooth and easy compared to most superchargers out there right now. Your warranty on the parts is 12/12 and Saleen is working on an extended warranty which may be available soon.

Indeed I am. Can't wait till they open their shop. It will be expensive but they got some sick stuff in the window. I worked with Sean over at Extreme automotive. He's great and he got Lance Keck from Vortech to custom tune my car (See R&T "Standing mile") What you got on yours? Do you live in the SFV?

Your reasoning is both sound and illustrative of the streetability advantage of a centrifugal blower. Because horsepower and torque build with rpms, you can comfortably drive the car around town at low rpms. But when you need it, you only need to step into it a tiny bit and as Emeril says, "BAM!"
