REAL gains from Vortech on a 96-98? Anyone have numbers?

Well, its official, I am in the market for a supercharger and I am on the fence between the procharger w/intercooler and the vortech. I am leaning procharger (just because you dont have to tap the oil pan) but I would like to get some solid numbers. Vortechs website says that 96-98 GT's see 75 HP and Steeda claims that its 95 HP! I am guessing that vortech would know there own numbers....but why would steeda have 95 HP on their site? Anyone with any real numbers or good/bad opinions on the vortech or procharger kit, please post. Anything would be appreciated, its a pretty big purchase.

if you buy from steeda it cmes with there tune. it will net you the extra horsepower fancy boy!

Ok....I had planned on getting a tune from detroit speedworks (livernois motorsport) for like $400, I wouldnt need that if I got the kit from steeda? The kit thats like $3150? I thought that the tune from steeda only came with the kit that was like over $4k?

How come their kit is only $2500? And all the other places are selling them for $3k or more? What do they mean when they say "tuner kit?"

Dude, I live right down the street from Steeda, do your self a favor don't buy your S/C from them and certainly don't buy their crap tune. But do what you want, I know alot of people who have been burned/ripped off by them.

I haven't seen it in a while but I did take notice about 2 years ago before I did the headswap. Most Vortech kits placed on a bolt-on 96-98GT resulted in a 275/280rwhp car. The heads/cam/intake holds the car back. Why not look into the Kenny-Bell S/C. It makes a lot of power in the lower rpm range.

I would but the KB is so expensive. I am willing to spend $3500, but not $5000.

get a PI motor and put the blower on that..that way you will see more in the range of 350rwhp instead of 290rwhp.

For the money you plan on spending for the supercharger, why don't you instead pick up a slightly used 99 and up PI engine for under $2000 add some cams and bolt ons. This way you would be spending less and have the PI heads and intake for a REAL supercharger upgrade in the future. Just something to think about.

I was thinking that this winters project would be a blower, and next winters project will be a pi intake, PP heads and a set of cams. Thats the game plan....but if it seems out of order, someone let me know.

I've been looking into superchargers myself and I think a "tuner" kit is for people that have non-factory mods on their car and will do their own tuning. Otherwise, if your car is stock you just use the tune that comes with the S/C. Good luck, let us know haw it goes.

No matter what blower you get or where you get it (ie steeda) make sure you get it dyno tuned. I can't stress this enough DYNO TUNE DYNO TUNE DYNO TUNE....IT'S ALL IN THE TUNE!!!!!!

When i had my 97 GT i was going to get a ATI but i decided to get an 01 Cobra instead. More food for thought my 01 dynoed 276RWHP stock or about what most blown 96-98s make.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I cant sell my car man, I gotta keep this one for a while. In retrospect, I probably should have done more research and just bought a cobra from the start...oh well.

So a tuner kit, more or less, just means that there may be some parts that I still need to buy for the kit? From what I can tell on that c-f-m site, it doesnt come with any kind of fuel upgrade. So I would still need to get injectors, fuel pump, and a tune from somewhere? That sound right?

I see 330 to the wheels. I Just installed my LT's and midpipe without a tune so i am hoping for another 15 horses. My car is a beast i handle a good amount of cars. What i did was found a cheap S/C on ebay like 1200 had it refurbished and dyno tuned by a near by shop for under 2500. Good luck and if i can i'll try to take a picture of my dyno sheet and post it.

Agreed! I came close to getting a mail order tune and GLAD I didn't. Talk to your tuner before you buy anything and ask him which components he likes to work with.
