I changed my oil this weekend and I put in royal purple 10w30 which i normally use conventional. It developed a terrible oil leak. Bad enough that when I drive down the road theres a trail. It seems to be my rear main but I just replaced it a little less than a year ago and i havent driven the car in 3 months. Is there anything I can put into the oil to soften up the seals and make them seal better w/o actually contradicting switching to a synthetic oil?

Yes i know this thats why it is not being driven except to park it. I was just wandering if there was something I could do because I do not want to take the tranny out again, that would be my 3rd or 4th time in the past year and a half.

Derek, are you putting the rear mains in dry or with a dab of RTV? I've installed them dry and with RTV, I've even used the expensive teflon coated seals that fel-pro sells and the regular rear main with a dab of RTV works the best for me.

find the leak before you do anything. dont make the same mistake as me and assume its the rear main when theres a chance its not. pulling the tranny and getting everything back together only to see you still have the leak is not fun. i even changed the pan gasket and valve cover gaskets before finally finding out the whole time the leak was at the back of the lower intake.
