Really loud whine: is it my 5speed or my rear end?

Got here too late...carrier bearing went out on mine and did the same thing. Used it as an excuse to put my 4.10's in also.

Well, the pinion bearing (smaller one) had some serious metal lifting off the inner race. They replaced all the bearing.

I used my preditor to change the axel ratio and I was off. Too bad it was raining. So far I'm really enjoying the 4:10's. I deffinately need to change driving habits, used to set up for passing in 3rd, now it's 3rd or 4th.. We'll see.

I am not surpirsed as you can tell from my earlier posts to this topic. just the way you described the noise screamed pinion bearings to me.
