rear brake help? (drums)

in the spring kit there is a small horse shoe shaped clip or washer where does it go? thankyou.

Been a while since i've done my brakes, so I don't recall off the top of my head. Got a picture? Do you have a manual? If so, check in there. If nothing else, you could go to autozone and ask them.

you dont need it. i just redid my rear brakes. the horshoe is just used to clip a spring to a cable (or something like that) in some applications, which doesnt include the fox's rear brakes. You can just throw them away. O yeah, and i hope you have someone to help you put the brakes back together. Also, dont forget to grind down high/low spots.

You need it. It holds the parking park level/ bar to the shoe. Put it on.

Good thing! I'd hate to see all those loose parts chewing up your drums. Don't forget, the short shoe ALWAYS goes toward the front of the car. The emer. lever attaches to the REAR shoe with the clip.

The secret behind making sure brakes are right is to only take apart one side at a time. You have all the answers fully assembled on the other side to look at if you arent sure of something. Keep in mind its a mirror image and its backwards, but you cant screw it up this way.

i dont get y you say the clip goes on...there is NOT one that comes off during dissassembly, so whats the need for a new one? I threw mine away and my brakes are assembled and work fine.

its not exactly a mirror image. there is no parking cable or guide in the front, the star wheel can only co in one way, along with the adj. lever. also, the shoes are different.

most of it is mirrored however. i think what Jerry was getting at is that if one has not done drums (i remember my first time - i was saying why are all these springs and stuff here. LOL), it can really help to have the other side as a reference (if one cannot remember or figure out where springs go, etc).

another tip i use: do you have one of those magnetic bowls? as i pull parts out, i stick them in the bowl in the same orientation they came off in (top spring in the top of the bowl, etc). i usually know which spring goes where, but sometimes cant remember which side goes to which side (the ends of springs are different, etc).

i highly recommend using a new spring kit whenever doing drums (gives one new springs, clips, etc).
