Rear Bumper Question

I know the bottom of the rear bumper gets held in from these

But the thing is their is a piece that has the holes on it that those retainers go into. That metal piece is held in by Rivets i believe. The piece is loose because the rivets(??) are just worn and old I guess. I think's its rivets im not 100% sure though. My question is can i just use like carriage bolts and a nut or something (if any other ideas other then the bolt and nut please reply with your idea) and if so what size would you guys say to get the carriage bolts in?

yes, you seem to have the idea. The dont really support the bumper just give stability. So I don't see why your can't drill and insert bolt to tighten up the loose brackets. I think you can access every thing without removing the bumper.

Not a carriage bolt, but just a standard bolt. Carriage bolt are made to be tightened so the head end presses into the materal you are bolting, like wood on a deck. But we are talking metal brackets here.

Bolt size shouldn't matter, something like a 1/2"x1 on each side of the bracket. I would recomend using either lock washers or lock nuts.

yes you can use bolts instead of the rivets for the bracket.
