Rear caliper groan bracket

hey guyz, I'm in the process of installing some baer rear brake stuff and I was having some clerance issues with the caliper groan bracket (its the piece inbetween the caliper and caliper bracket...its mounted to the axel tub with a u-bolt and some nuts). I was wondering if i could just remove this part all together?Anyone know what it actually does and if i really need it...? Thanks guyz.

Doesn't anyone know what it does/how it works? I assume its a noise damper somehow...Anyways, I'm in the process of grinding and rewelding them right now so I'm gonna keep em....But I would still like a good description of what they do, if anyone knows. Come on...sombody knows.
