Rear Drum Brakes

I am in the process of rebuilding an 8" for my 65 mustang. It has the 10 inch rear drum brakes. I have never done any kind of work on brake drums before and I am planning on replacing all of the internal hardware as well as installing new shoes.

So my question is does anyone have any tips to make this easier or know of a website or step by step guide for doing this?

The Ford repair manual is worth it's weight in gold for this kind of thing, and will be a useful reference for years to come. It's even available on disc these days so you can print and ruin what ever individual page you need....

Just re-did mine recently. Taking pictures is key! Makes life a lot easier when you put the new ones on. Might want to rebuild or replace your wheel cylinders while you are at it. Definately pick up a brake spring plier tool. Very cheap at your local parts store. I had never done drums before either, it wasn't all that hard after you get the hang of it. Make sure you adjust the shoes all the way in to make it easier to get the drums off and the last spring when you put the new shoes on. Just remember to adjust them back out when you get it all buttoned up. Good luck!
