Rear end clunk???????

What bushing, shock mount, bracket, wears out normally on 94-95 ponys in the rear. I finally though I had all the bugs out and now i'm gettin a clunk only when I either hit the breaks or start out from a stop. Haven't had time to look at it yet, but want to go to the track tomorrow and some direction where to start looking would be great.Thanks in a advance.

It could be alot of different things, you'll have to get under and look at things real close.

Could be anything from the u-joints to torque boxes to internal rear end parts, etc.

I would take a look at the control arm bushings, or the rear brake caliper pins. If either gets worn, it will cause slop and a clunk. Even the quad shock bushings could cause a clunk. Like 89MUSTANGGX said ... get under there and secure the car well ... and start shaking and wiggling and pulling the control arms, and anything else that could move forward or backwards as the axle flexes. Good luck! Twist the driveshaft and listen for similar clunks in the pumpkin. Check those U-joints too!

Could be the rear sway bar. That broke on my car it was hard to see until i used it to pull me under the car and it moved. Check that.

LOL, if you dont follow this and start pulling, i think you might have another kind of more painful clunk to deal with. it is not hard to rock a car off jackstands or a jack. do be careful.

the advice given is the only way to go. too many things that it could be. while the rear u-joint wears out more often, dont forget the front one. also, they can also deteriorate on the inside, but look fine outside. esp if they rust. once had one that had rusted (needle bearings were junk), but it was as tight as a mofo (probably due to the rust/corrosion inside the caps). it did squeak while driving. LOL. just something to remember for future reference.

:OT: Adam, thanks for the help with the headrest. took me about 5 minutes for both after your nice explanation.
