rear end gear questions....!

i got a 88 gt mustang and well the rear axle blew up is the easyiest way to say it, so a shop put a new axle on out of a 87 or 88 t-bird, well now on the freeway at about 70 mph, my cars at 2600rpms......ive been reading posts where people complain thats to high with there 3.73 gears. but i dont think the t-birds came with those gears right? anyone know what gears my 8.8 axle has?

The 87 & 88 TC either had a 3.55 if from a manual tranny car, or like mine, 3.73 if from an auto. I don't recall what mine reads at 70, but at 60 it is right around 2000 RPMs on the "totally accurate" stock tach.
