I bought a 95 GT a couple weeks ago and my speedometer is off. I'm guessing that it must have different gears in it. Going approx. 85 mph on the speedometer is really about 75. I was wondering if that ment that the gears in it are bigger or smaller. I believe it had 3:23 or something close in there before. On the speedometer ive also noticed that soemtimes i can gain speed and it wont move up at all then suddenly start moving up alot. Any ideas?

sounds like 373s to me.

Get underneath the car. Jack up the rear end. Turn a rear tire once and compare that to the number of revolutions the drive shaft makes. If 1 turn of the tire makes roughly 3 and 3/4 drive shaft revolutions, then you have a 3.73 ratio rear end.

Most stock GTs came from the house with 2.73s in the rear end. This number is probably stamped on your differential housing.

I tryed that today and according the the driveshaft the gears are somewhere between 3:00 and 3:25. I'm guessing it has 3:10s because the shaft didn't turn much over 3 rotations. Where do you buy the piece to put in the speedometer sensor in the transmission? I have some 3:73 gears out of a 92 (i believe) explorer that i'm going to get put in next week. I just wanted to make sure it didn't already have them in it.

3.08 is a factory gear, as is 3.27.

Someone mentioned to call D&D/Walsh Racing in Michigan and get the right speedo gear.

Good luck.

alright, i will give them a call tomorrow. I wasn't really sure what or where to find information about D&D in the 2nd reply. But if they are stock gears, then what might explain the speedometer being off? It has aftermarket whitefaced gauges already in it, could that have anything to do with it?

that could be the problem. i would remove the needle pace a friend at 30mph (or slower) and set the cruise.. then just slide the needle back on
