Rear end gears

I know there are most likely threads out there similar to this one so ill get to the point. I was looking into buying some rear end gears. *3.73*
Which would be the best for a decient price?
Are Richmond rear end gears nice? I have heard good and bad about them *but thats with almost anything people have their own opinion*
Throw me some options and ill see what I would want to do.

Preferably go with Ford Racing (FRPP) gears, and go with 4.10's rather than 3.73's unless you have a specific reason for wanting that ratio. You'll be glad you did.

true any gear set installed incorrectly will whine, but for some reason i just dont like installing motive because they are cut differently than the FRPP and they require shimming as to the FRPP you can use the one form the old pinion

4.10s are high for a daily hense why i wanted 3.73..... gas mileage sucks already haha. after i do this 5.0 stroker setup on my 4.6 my gas is relaly gnuna suck so i think ill look into FFRP 3.73s

Really? i use mine as a daily driver and the mileage only dropped about 1 mpg.

I have 4.10s for a DD. Gas mileage did not drop that much. I could hardly tell teh difference. Go with the 4.10s. You will regret it later if you go 3.73 imo.

FRPP 4.10 FTW Mine is a DD AND Im SC on top of that and I still get about 16-18 mpg with mostly city driving.

yeah go with 4.10's you wont see that much of a difference unless you are constantly on it then yeah your gas mileage will suck

I have drag radials and 3.73s and my car is my daily driver. I drive about 40 miles if not more (total) to work and back every day. 80% highway and the rest streets. My 3.73s are great. It was a MUCH NEEDED advance over the stock gears. After driving with 3.73s i can't even believe i let myself go with 3.27s for so long. And when i feel like rompin on the car on the free way (now that i have gears and my raptor shiftlight) I sometimes wish i had a bit mroe gear and went with 4.10s. However i love the RPM ranges that im at when i drive and 3.73s suit me the best. Because its my dialy driver i didn't want to have to worry about too high RPMs and traction loss in rain or whatever. Plus with my drag radials (and even sticker ones comin next summer) I didn't want to upgrade the rear so im content with my 3.73s.

Its really up to you. But DEFINATELY get FRPP gears and get what suits you.

If you are going to get a power adder in the future. Get 3.73s. If you are just on the street and not the highway too much get 4.10s. Lots of auto-trans guys on here recommend getting 4.10s if you have an auto too.

I had 4.10s in my last 98GT (auto) stang, and i like my 3.73s in my 5spd 02 GT now a lot better. Not that that means anything LOL just saying.

I have FRPP 3.73's and i love them...I will be getting an S/C next year, so thats the only reason i went 3.73's instead of 4.10's...but trust me, if you are not going to go FI. get the 4.10's.

I still want them, but i think it will be over kill when i add the blower.

U got to think about it before you do the gear install i have done 3 now.

1.) Are you looking for the best times on the drag strip or the best performance low end or high end ?

If you want to use it at the track you will be shifting in to 4th and run a slower time due to this in the 1/4 with the 4.10's rather than the 3.73's where you will stay in 3rd. The 4.10's will give you a lot more pull on the road down low where you need it but when you do this you also need to think about traction.

I wouldn't have gone so far as to say you'll run slower times just because you have 4.10s over 3.73s. In fact you may have just pissed off the "4.10 cult" that resides on this forum.

There are a lot of factors that come into play when racing, and just because you have an extra shift isn't one of them. Not when it comes to 4.10s vs 3.73s

Any proper gear install includes checking the pinion depth and reshiming if needed.. FFRP's are no different in this way than any other gear...
