Rear End Grind

My rear end is grinding, at first I thought it was nothing but now it is doing it worse, started doing it really bad 2day. At first it would grind a little when starting out from a dead stop as I released the clutch. Now it does it for a second when im going around a corner at slow speeds. It sounds bad and makes the car kind of shake and the passanger in the back seat said they felt something grinding right under their butt.

I was gonna try to check the rear axle/differential fluid tommorrow, and change it if it is low, anyone have any ideas what may be going on???

check to see if anything is rubbing on the driveshaft, too

my best guess would be fluid low and your checking that tommorrow check rear end for leaks and replace gaskets leaking and look at back tires while under car and see if the inside tire walls under car are wet or show signs of axle/wheel seals leaking usually if axle/wheel seal is leaking tire wall will show signs... good luck. also besure to add friction modifier..

inspect fluid for any metal shavings or foriegn materials closely and you will want to turn driveshaft by hand with car in neutral before adding fluid to ensure smooth action checking for bad bearings by feeling for any binding and listening you mighty need an assistant during this check. besure to chock wheels and use car stands and blocks for safety.

more than likely it's the wheel bearings in the rear, though it certainly could be internal issues too.

in my experience, i've seen the rear wheel bearings fail almost religiously between 160-190k miles.

Well I didnt get to get it on the lift today b/c the hobby shop was closed. I think im gonna go get a new gasket, gear oil, and RTV and just replace it tommorow anyways.

ensure you check all bearings as i stated above and you might want to remove axles and inspect axle bearings they are bad about going bad and cut into axles and cause grinding if this is the case a factory replacement bearing wont work but you can use an OPTIONAL: AXLE REPAIR PACKAGE BEARING AXLE REPAIR BEARING ALLOWS BEARING & SEAL TO RIDE ON UN-WORN AXLE PATH.these special bearings can be purchased at any car parts store. goodluck...

clutch pacs will stick together if there is no friction modifier, seen it a million in one times, if you are gunna tear it down don't forget to add it!!!!!

will do, i just went and bought 3 quarts of Mobil1 synthetic gear oil, then some Friction Modifier stuff, some Ultra Black RTV, and a Felpro Gasket

Well I changed the fluid today. I had a mechanic take a look at the gears once I got the girdle off, and all the gears look good and there were no metal shavings. He also said my Universal Joints and Spider gears looked fine. There was no play in the driveshaft either.

I took it for a little drive and it didnt grind but it still bucks like a bronco. I have changed the motor/tranny mounts, and changed the tranny fluid. The car jerks back and forth really bad, usually when im in 5th and I slow down till about 45, then try to give it a little gas, it starts jerking forwards and backwards really bad, anyone know whats going on?
