Rear-End Hops on Take Off...WTF??

OK, every time I start off in first gear or reverse... the rear end hops/chatters a little bit. It rattles my decklid in the latch... Is this a broken suspension link or what? It almost seems like clutch chatter but nothing is felt in the pedal nor the shifter. Any ideeers??

Welcome to the world of crappy "bean counter" stock lower control arms.

It's a common problem with the stock stamped steel control arms, especially when you add any kind of traction like your Nitto’s. Upgrade the arms and your wheel hop should clear up.

It does it all the time... even starting VERY easy! I think it might have started soon after my buddy curb-check my rear-right wheel really hard and went over the curb...

Either your BUDDY bent the FU@K out of something and he owes you some $ and you owe him an A$$ beatin. Or you could possibly have some bad control arm bushings or even the ones on the rear axle are bad.

I'd be willing to bet it's from Numbnuts and the curb!

USUALLY when you talk about wheel hop, it's usually a 99+Cobra and the $hitty IRS that they have. That's the first thing I thoguht of when I saw your username. But now I see you drive a GT and you have a Moron for a friend who is a $hitty driver.

All the time?!?! Does it wheel hop, or just shudder? If it's just a shudder, it may only be a bad U-joint. What's the wheel like since the curb incident...does it wobble?

Yes all the time, pulling out of the garage or taking off hard... The wheel seems fine to me. I am going to get this bitch up off of the ground and look at some things. Anything in particular to look at? Its more of a shudder..

I'd look at EVERYTHING since you let your buddy George McFly drive it and he hit a curb.

I'd even suggest getting Yours and another GT (that you buddy hasn't driven ) up in the air next to each other so you can see if anything looks out of place.

Check to see if there's any play in the U-joint itself. Another possibility is that your buddy may have bent a control arm. Check your arms and their bushings to make sure everything is where it should be. If they're distorted in any way, it may be causing excessive pinion angle, which under hard acceleration could result in a violent shudder that might resemble a mild case of wheel hop.
