Rear end howl

Hey guys this is an "official" hello. I have been on stangnet for a while now and have learned much from reading your posts...thank you all!!! Anyway my car has developed a howling sound coming from the rear end seeming to depend more on speed than RPM. I have stock gears and was wondering what it could be...maybe a wheel bearing or the pinion? Any ideas what could be causing it are greatly appreciated!
BTW my car is a 99GT (a few mods )

It's probably the rear end about to go... my friend has an 85 RX-7 that howls like crazy.. the faster you go, the louder it gets. I'd invest in a Ford 9" rear end if you have to replace your current.

Carrier bearings. If it howls louder in turns, then it's the axle bearings. Due to the design of the rear ends, the only way axle bearing see any lube is during cornering.

Mine is making a ton of noise as well, but it's due to old age. You won't need a 9" rearend since you can rebuild your stocker inexpensively.

You will need a master bearing set from 50resto.com and axle bearings/seals and while your in there, rebuild the t-lok. Total parts should be about $120ish. You can then decide if you want to do gears.

I had the same exact thing happen to me. Decided to change to gears at the same time since there was no point in paying for the labor twice to pull it all apart.

Carrier bearings vote here. I just had mine replaced with some new gears at T&J. The car is about 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 times more fun to drive with a quite drivetrain.
