With an automatic behind a turbo 4, the 8" would almost be overkill for strength. I used to run my 351W+C4 with a 2.79 8" and broke 3 transmissions without hurting the rear end at all.

Stick shift is a different story, but since you're running a boosted 4, you still wouldn't be that hard on it even when abusing it. I've broken an 8" with a 302 + T5, and broken a 9" with the 351W + Tremec. Prior to putting a T5 behind my 302, I broke 2 RAD 4spds.

Nice to see that another Turbo II will be on the road, with the same HP goals I have for mine. Too bad mine has been sitting in the garage for 3 years now waiting on me come up with an intercooler, intercooler plumbing, exhaust, wideband O2, and bigger injectors.

Recently purchased a 1975 Mustang II Ghia. The rear end is growling at low speed. While I am having that looked at, I was thinking about having the rear end turned into a posi rear end. Is there a kit that can be purchased to convert the 8" C2 that came stock? If so, where do I find one that is reasonably priced?

Any help much appreciated.

To Jeff and All,

I am asking for clarification of what "Summit Racing powertrax unit." means.

I use to work on cars when I was a teenager, but have not until now that the kids are leaving home and I can finally afford to play around with older cars. Therefore, I am a bit rusty.

I am trying to find out what my options are as far as using the existing stock rear end in my '75 Ghia and turning it into a posi rear end if possible.

The Codes I listed before are off of the tag on the rear end.
I looked them up and the first line means:
3.00:1 ratio
8" Gear diameter
C2 differential type
It is a removable carrier type rear end.

Hope this helps to clarify things.

To Jeff and All,

I am trying to get clarification by what Jeff meant by "Summit Racing powertrax unit."
I have not really worked on cars since I was a teenager and now that my kids are FINALLY leaving home, I can afford $$ and time to work on an older car. Therefore, I am a bit rusty (me, not the car!).

There are numerous options for the Ford 8", not as many as the 9" but still .....

I suggest starting a new thread asking this question. I think you'll get more action/responses.

When I do that it tells me that I cannot post new threads. You obviously haven't driven a well-modified 2.3. A week after getting doing a ported head/cam/turbo swap on my SVO, my V8-spec T5 started grinding going into 3rd and doesn't like being speed shifted into 2nd. Modded 2.3 turbos make just as much torque as a V8, albeit only when under boost. Powershifting will be out of the question with a RAD-4.
