Rear Main Seal Installation

I just replaced the rear main seal in my '96 GT (did it while replacing the clutch). I am pretty sure I was paying attention when I removed the old one and saw that the side with the "spring" was towrds the engine. I installed the new one this way. Can anyone verify this for me. A buddy of mine is making me second guess myself. BTW- The car is back together with about 200 miles on it and no leaks or problems yet.
