Hello Good Friends, When I try to put the qtr window up, it will go 1/4 of the way and start to skip so I have to pull it up a bit and up it goes..l took it all apart so I could see the regulator teeth and window motor teeth, as I start the window up I notice a very slight bend on the regulator and the teeth don’t align So it skips…When I push against the regulator (towards the interior) the window goes up without any issue?? I’m using a small screwdriver against the regulator, No teeth are missing on the regulator or window motor… and its only off a 1/16 inch or so from meshing properly .. tried to bend it a little with a pry bar but no luck….apologize for the long explanation. Any ideas or suggestions??

First things first...

You can buy one, which may be easier as it isn't crazy expensive.

Otherwise, I would probably pull the regulator out and inspect it to make sure that the gear does not have play or is binding. My guess is that the regulator has developed some slop over the years and that is why you are losing alignment. I don't have a convertible, but my experience with this type of arrangement is that it is typically not worth repairing compared to simply replacing the regulator.

90% of the time it is the rubber nibs in the window motor that have disintegrated. i replace them. The other thing that goes wrong is the plastic bushing at the bottom of the rod breaks I replaced mine with aluminum ones from LMR

yes, when this issue happened, I removed the window motor and the 3 plastic bushing were shot so replaced those with plastic ones from lmr…didn’t notice metal replacements..I’m going to see if I can move the caseing or the rod enough to mesh….appreciate the help, thank you.

First 50 cent fix I learned working at a Lincoln dealer was to replace the 3 plastic drive bushings with A/C caps (high side plastic caps R12) Fit right in there with some heavy force. It's a pisser the new regulator is what obsolete?

Okay, I took both sides apart (removed seat belt brackets) so I could get a better look while I ran the window up and down..now I can remove window motor and bracket to get better look. Thank you I appreciate the help.

Pics please
The first pic is how high the window will raise before it skips….if I lower it a little or just pull on it.up it comes. Middle pic window is up and next pic down. any ideas?

If the gear teeth do not line up in some spot the rivet holding the regulator together is loose
The regulator should be replaced
I have fixed a few by drilling and tapping the smashed side of the rivet for a small screw
Here’s some pics…that’s how high the window goes up before it skips, if I lightly push a screwdriver against the regulator the window goes up fine, no issues..

I can't tell from those pics.
Here are some from today, I took the whole assembly off and in these pics if you can see motor teeth barely mesh with regulator, if I push the regulator towards the motor teeth..all good room to spare and when I plug it in , the motor/ regulator everything works fine. In the other pic the assembly has some play in it and not sure if it can be taken apart and pressed back together and I don’t see where I can get a replacement for the quarter windows?

Dollars to donuts one of the regulator arms or bracket is just slightly bent. Wouldn't take much to make it misalign. Since you have it out, clean it really well and closely check those arms, gear and mounting bracket for straightness. A slight tweak may remedy the situation. Heat may be required. You can pick up used ones on Ebay, usually from junkyard sellers who will guarantee straightness, at least. A quick check didn't reveal any drivers side units but there were plenty of pass side pieces. They come up all the time. May want to contact some of those sellers to let them know what you're looking for. I bought one off Ebay, not long ago for my '93 and it worked perfectly.

Appreciate the help, didn’t think about eBay for one.. when I press a little on the arms there is some play so if i could get that a bit closer it would be fine. Going to check a couple shops to see if that’s possible and not more $ then a junkyard find.. thanks again.
