Rear racing seats??

Has anyone ever installed racing seats in the rear with a 5 point harness? The reason I'm asking is I like taking the kids out on weekends but I'm always concerned about the lack of safety. Plus I think it would look pretty unique. I would also be interested in mounting a harness with the stock seats in place. Just brainstorming

A couple things -

1. If this car has a cage, forget about it, unless you want everyone in the car to wear a helmet while you drive around.

2. A 5-point harness is part of a system with regards to safety. They are great in cars that have cages, proper seats, and mounting points. A 5-point harness in a car that isn't equipped with those things is actually more dangerous.

What does the spouse say about racing with her and the kids! The kids say "whee!" and "faster!" I bet. How would a harness be more dangerous? The cage is a head banger, but the harness ???

Anyway, Harness in a rollover = crushed head and spine.

I'm aware of the issues regarding roll overs and for that matter cages on the street present some dangers. That said I don't mess around with my kids in the car, I'll ring it out a little but nothing more than I could do in the maxima. I was looking for a little more support in case grandma runs a red light or something. The stock seat belts are real crap, plus I think the racing seats would be a good look.

No one plans to roll their car, and the fact that you don't screw around in the car with your kids is great, but it doesn't prevent you from being involved in an accident or a rollover. The stock seatbelts are the best for the intended usage of the vehicle, which is transporting people from one destination to another. If the accident is bad enough that you need a 5 point harness, then the outcome will probably be bad no matter what. If the car rolls over and your kids become paralyzed because of a 5-point harness, then you will live with that for the rest of your life.

Your original post says that you are concerned about safety. If you want the safest setup, then keep it stock. If you want what looks the best, then see if simpson sells something you want.
