Rear Seat Delete help - 93 Fox 5.0 (GT)

I made mine out of .015" aluminum sheet that I pop riveted & siliconed in place (the silicone was so it wouldn't rattle). I made templates out of cardboard to make sure it would fit around all the wierd bumps in the rear seat floor area then cut it out. It will have carpet over it because it is a street car. I didn't weigh it, but even carpeted it can't weigh more than 5 lbs. I'm not worried about it supporting any weight because with my cage I couldn't fit anything large back there anyway. I don't have any pics, my wife is out of town with the camera but I can post some when she gets back.

BTW I can't say for hatches, but a coupe rear seat weighs 23 lbs.

I have considered making the kits out of something other then wood, but I have found nothing even close to the price of the wood. Sheet metal to have any strentgh would have to be at least 1/8 thick and at that thickness it would weigh more then the 1/4 kit. Plus the cost of cutting the metal is more labor intensive. I looked at plastic, but then again, plastic is even more expensive.

If someone has any suggestions on what material that would be light weight and inexpensive, then please tell me. I'm happy to consider all options.

Use fiberglass man!

I think I just walked into a bar fight.

Anyways (ducks beer bottle thown by Speeds8erM-1) the way to remove the seats is easy, just unbolt anything that holds the seats in. The seat's actuall weight is minor, but after you take out the brackets, seatbelt assemblies (ducks chair thrown by kdezines) the weight starts to add up. While you are at it, might want to take the backing off the carpet and remove some the the sound deadening material. You'll drop over 100 lbs easy with all this.

As far as the finish (dodges kdezines as he is thrown by Darkwriter77 and Phatdaddy) you might want to keep it light if you want weight reduction. You could just grind down all studs and have carpet molded to the surface of the floorboard.
