I found a 8.8 to swap out my 7.5. I have 2.73's now and the 8.8 has 3.08. He wants 250 for it and i was wondering if it would it be worth it or should i wait until i can find a rear end with 3.55 or 3.73's. Will there be much differene? As always looking for some advice from the gurus

Look for an '87 or '88 Turbo Coupe Thunderbird. They had 8.8's with disc brakes, the auto equipped cars had 3.73 gears, and the 5 speed cars had 3.55 gears. It's a bolt in swap (except for the brake lines),Traction Lock, and usually go for about $200.00 and up depending on who's selling it.I got both of mine for $120.00 each.If you don't want to deal with the discs, you can alwys swap in your axles and drum brakes. The rear is 1/2 inch wider on each side,a non-issue.

Remember you will need to run different rims if you uprade to the 5 lug.

I would hold out for a 8.8 out of a mustang if you are looking to do things on the cheap. Good oppertunity to upgrade your control arms while you are at it.
