I had a clunking noise like that and it turned out to be my exhaust pipe hitting, also look at your driveshaft bolts to see if they are loose, that has also happened to me. Good luck!!!!

its more like a clicking nosie i think to tell you the truth.what about axle shaft bearings?

def not the exhaust pipe hitting

I take it you don't want to take the time to put the rear on stands to find out where the sound is REALLY coming from.
Here's a link you can try that will help show you a method of finding that sound without having to jack and place your ride on stands.

Last year I heard a clunk coming from my rear end. When I got home the next day i put it in neutral in my driveway and rolled the car listening each side of the car. It was DEFINITELY a clunk, changed the rear wheel bearings and I was good to go. Very easy fix, just need a slide hammer and bearing puller which you can rent from a local auto parts store such as AutoZone.

If your going through all the trouble of pulling out the shafts. You might as well replace all of the bearings in there. Would suck to get those in to find out it was the pinion bearing clicking from the wrong pre-load being set.

What do you mean by the pre-load being set?

and also where can i buy all of the bearings and what are all the bearings in there.

and are the axle shaft bearings the same as the rear wheel bearings?

There are no wheel bearings....just axle bearings. How many miles are on the car? Sometimes the ring or pinion can chip, which will cause a clunking. Also, if the pinion bearing is severly worn it could cause the pinion to move around a bit which will eventually ruin everything and cause it to clunk alot. You can get an entire kit with all the bearings and a new ring and pinion from Brenspeed on ebay for $200. So for 400-450 you could have your entire rearend rebuilt by a pro. That's your best bet. A little preventative maintenance never hurt anybody.

when I had a bad axle bearing it was more of a whomp.whomp whomp, every time the wheel rotated,it would not be noticeable at highway.clunking is more likely excessive backlash.just grab the driveshaft and move it back and forth and see how much play is there before the wheels start turning.

Now that you said the whomp noise it does sound moer like that. turn the driveshaft is what ur saying? and what see how much i can turn it before the wheels start turning?

so i jacked it up with my father and did what i was told from you guys on the forums and i can't hear the noise at all. then i drove the car down the road and i hear it again. i mean i dont know what the hell it could be.. any ideas now?

With the car on the stands, you eliminate the load placed on the bearings. You also eliminate the fact that it can be something simple like loose bolts, rubbing parts, brake parts and so on becasue there easy to check for while it's on stands. You did check that stuff right?
If all else is good, then whats left, things that are effected by the weight of the car(load on the bearings).
I would have to say it is the bearings, but I'm not the one lookin at the car and inspecting everythin. Little things are easily over looked. Double check everythng that moves in the back that you can see and touch. Then what's left is the bearings, which are affected by the load placed on them.
Just be sure it's really coming from the rear and not sounding like is coming from the rear. Have you're dad walk/jog next to the car to be sure. Or he could ride a bike next to it!

if u are hearing the womp.womp, womp, just replace the wheel bearings, id be willing to bet the noise will be gone.
thebearings and seals are cheap anyways. You can borrow the slap hammer type puller from advance or auto zone, mine came out really easy.Dont drive on it too much longer or you will risk messing up the axles where the bearing rides, one of mine was ruined but luckily I had a spare axle housing with axles intact,so I still have a spare. even if you did mess up the axles most parts stores carry a kit that relocates the beariings on your existing axles.good luck
