Rear wheel spacers

O.K. I have a ? on spacers. I have been told that 1/4" is the widest with stock studs and lug nuts. I measured and I have 10 threads being used...if I put on a 1/4" spacer I would only have 5 threads holding the wheel on. Is this enough??

Also do any of you have a lowering springs and 10" Saleen wheels with 1" spacers? The kind that bolt on and have their own studs? I would love these but not sure that I wouldn't rub. I put a ruler across the front of the tire up to the fender and if I add 1" the sides of the tires would be out past the fender...the tread part would still be o.k.
So i'm wondering if any of you have this combo and any issues with rubbing? Saleen "Rolled" the fender lips sort of...there still is about 1/4" of a lip.

As far as the threads you want a min of 6, thats pretty much the golden rule. If I were in your shoes I would use the spacers that are studed not just the plate type.

As far as wheels, Im running 18x10 saleens w/ 295/35 out back and a 3/8 spacer along with the Eibach prokit. You must be running a pretty small tire out back if your considering a 1" spacer, cause I know my tires sit pretty flush with the rear panel. I couldnt imagine4 a 1' spacer with the 295's.

On another site there were different people running 1" or 25mm spacers that's why I asked about it, also like I said when I measured they would be sticking out on the sidewall. I'm running real Saleen 99 up wheels and 295/35 tires. I'm not sure of the offset of replica wheels, and the Alcon rotors are thicker than standard rotors. I just wanted to see if others have run this combo on here.

The smallest spacer that has the studs that I found are 1" or 25mm so you have a 3/8 spacer that has studs?? If so what brand?

So on Maximum Motorsports website under the spacer instructions they say to count the turns it takes to get your lug nut off. It should be at least 11. The 1/4" spacers take 5 turns off so if you have 11 it will be o.k. and give you the 6 min required.

As for the 1" spacers check out the pics just posted using 1" spacers on the thread "Milling a Wheel" I included the link.....looks awesome! They have some on ebay that they say compare in quality to eibach etc for $70, billet with grade 8 studs hub centric. I would like to try and see if I can do it without rubbing and spending $150.00 because I have a feeling they will rub and I'll be out the money.

I should probably just get 1/4" but man that 1" look's killer!!!

I replaced all my studs with longer ones and run a spacer that dosent have studs. it was cheaper to replace the studs than to order the spacer with the studs. I would go by what Maximum saysas far as stud lenght.
About the link, you have to remember 95cobraguy is also running a 285 tire not 295 so he needs that extra bit the 1" gives him. Looking at his pics and the way mine are they seem to be almost identical good luck w/ your decision.

1/4 is the maximum u should go using a slip on spacer, after that its either get the 1" spacer like i have which i believe is the smallest stud type spacer there is or u can do like 95opal did and replace the factory studs with longer ones so u can use a thicker slip on spacer. decisions, decisions, hahaha!!!

I wanted to go with this company heres the link, pretty spendy.............Mustang Wheel Spacers with longer wheel studs. Check out our kits.

But when I replaced a stud before it hit the ABS ring so I had to grind it to clear.
He said that his studs have a notch so they will install o.k. with the ring on but the right way would be to pull the axles and have the ring removed to get the old studs out. I just didn't want to go through that right now....I just got the car going and the brakes on and all the summer shows are here and I wanted to bolt something on "nice and easy" Oh well thats how it always goes!!

On the tires I know 95cobraguy has 285's which are a little under 1/2" difference so it would only be 1/4" per side, my BFG's are wider than the Kumhos both 295's so yeah it all adds up.

Heres how it looks. Not the best pic's but You can see here how the front is out more than the rear.

This shows how tucked in the rears are.

From this angle it looks O.K. though.

yeah it looks like all those kits involve removing the factory studs and replacing them. from the pics of your car u definetly need some spacers in the rear. the size of the spacer is really the question now.

I have 1/4 in spacers on teh back with my 10.5 rims w. 315's and they look great. They catch about 5-6 threads, and Ive never had a problem with them.

Thanks!! Good to know, I will probably go this route for now and get larger spacers later and replace the studs.

Here's a simple solution if you run a spacer and need to grip more threads, run a Gorilla splined lug kit, they make one with a 1/4" shank at the end that grips on to more threads.

Its the 3rd one over on the top. 21183ET is a 20 pack with a key.

About $25. no replacing studs necessary. You should however, put a lug nut thru the wheel and make sure that the lug nut does not protrude beyond the mounting flange of the wheel before installation.

I would only use 1/4" spacers with extended lugs!!

Check this out...(SPACERS ARE USED)

Click on the photo gallery PIC 4. The rims are Ford Racing FR-500’s, and the rears have been widened to 11.5” to better accommodate the very wide BFG drag radial he uses that is a 345/30/18”. This tire measures near 13” wide!! And can be made to fit the ’99 thru ’04 Mustangs quite nicely with the exception of the IRS equipped Stangs.

Interesting Thanks!!! One thing is I have these really cool McGUARD lug nuts that I didn't want to get rid of. They have red rings on the part you see and they have a seperate piece that touches the wheel so as you tighten they don't grind into the wheel and mess up the chrome......I know I'm not explaining it well. Just bought them and they are like $90. These Gorillas would do it if they will fit right though and could be what I need until I put in longer studs!, Thanks again!!

How far those stick out is where mine would be with 1" bolt on spacers. If they don't rub with that maybe I would be O.K.??

I would love to try 1" spacers. There is a guy over on another thread with a 94-98 body style who is putting on 1" spacers and he has the same rims and tires so I'm waiting for pic's to see how it turns out!!
