rear window defroster

Has anyone put in a rear window defroster on their classic stang. I don't know if there are any new develpments for them, just the typical wire grid that is applied to the inside of the glass.

If anyone has any expericence with putting one in and or product info I'd be interested.

I'd like to know about this also, was thinking about rigging up a heated blower, but if there are better options i'd like to know.

This is a link to this topic which was discussed a short while back. In it, you'll see two links to defrosters from JC Whitney I provided. One was a grid type w/timer for about $50 and another I think was a blower type (butt ugly).

There was an option for a rear window defroster in 1967. I've only seen one in all these years, it was in a fastback, and was a blower with heated filament type.

i don't recall ever seeing one with a heated element. i've seen the regular blower motor style for the 67-68 fastbacks that looks quite a bit different from the 2 coupe style units i have but functionally they are exactly the same.

i got both of mine on ebay for about 35-40 bucks each

Bnickel, you may have me there...I saw it installed and was definitely an electric blower...the heated filament was just an assumption on my part. So if there was no filament...how did it defrost by blowing cold winter air from the trunk?

it's not really a defroster, just a defogger. also the air inlet is in teh passenger compartment as well so it doesn't pull cold air from the trunk. once the air in the car warms up it will blow warm air air on the rear window but i still wouldn't consider it enough to a defroster. most classics these days won't really see any snow or ice on the car and be driven anyway. some people do still drive their cars in the snow and ice and those people should probably try one of the grid style defrosters. alternately, you could do both but that would probably be overkill except in the most extreme cases.

i've considered toying with one of mine to see if it's possible to add some sort of heating element to it but it will probably be quite a while before i get to that little project.
