Rearend builders in SouthGA

Hey folks, I am new and just to give a little background I live in Tifton, near Valdosta. I have a black 92 GT with a little motor work, I drive it everyday and race every once in awhile at SGMP in Adel. My best time is a 14.09, with a 2.13 60' foot time.

The problem is only one wheel spins now and I need the rear end rebuilt. So does anyone on here know of performance shops around here that will do it. Like around Albany, Valdosta, Macon, maybe even north Florida. Also should I go with the Trac-Lok or maybe something else like an Auburn diff, any help would be appreciated.

not sure if ya were closer (ATLANTA) i could hook you up i have a press dial ind. you name it for a street car i would go w/ an auburn unit and prolly upgrade yer ring and pinion also

Here in Gainesville Fl (which isn't too far from you), there is a performance shop that is VERY good with just about anything (60yrs experience)....If ya want I can give you the 411...

Another question...

Is the Auburn good on the street, and what is the difference, besides price. I plan on going with 3.73's, I think mine are stock, but there is no way to tell until I get em out. I'm in college right now but money really ain't a problem, for now. Gainsville might be a little too far, but if they are good and the price is right....

They charge $66/hr labor....

I go to school in gainesville, and am interested in switching out my gears, is it the only place in gainesville that will do it? I would be interested in the number as well.. (wonders how long it takes to do a gear job)

I have a friend in Worth county, that rebuilds rearends. Reasonable price too.

Also in Albany: http://www.petersperformance.com/ decent prices also.

You're welcome! He installed my camber/caster plates and UCA's & LCA's and welded my torque boxes. When you go thru Sylvester, look for my 84 vert.

They are not the only ones in G'ville that do gear changes, but these folks do nothing but performance mods/builds/etc, they have a dynojet on site and have years and years of experience. There are also some good places in Jax, or so I've been told...

So I went by Peters Performance yesterday, (not in the stang, but the ranger) to ask some questions and see how much it would cost and everything. It wasn't what I expected, it was better. I figured it would be just a bunch of ol' rednecks standing around drinking beer! I was impressed. I stayed about an hour just talking to the owner, he even gave me a tour of the whole place. I was really impressed when he said he quarentees his rebuilt T5s for 6 months, thats the first I have heard of that.

Now the stang is schelduled for Jan 4 for a complete rebuild of the Traction Lock, a set of 3.73's, an aluminum driveshaft, and some synthetic oil in the T5. All of this for about 850 bucks, I think I am getting a pretty good deal, but I still have a few more questions when I take the stang around there in Jan. Just thought I'd give you an update!
