i normally never back up no more than 2 car lenghts but today i backed up about 10 car lenghts and heard a whining noise coming from the rear. the faster i went the louder it got. i suspect it might be the rearend low on oil but havent checked it yet. i know its real easy to check, but its driving me crazy not knowing working graveyards. anyone heard a similar noise when backing up? thanks

it can also be the rear brakes. the self adjusters 'adjust' when you back up and hit the brakes. it tends to make a clicking sound (repeatedly).

checking the pumpkin level is always a good idea though.

good luck.

The t-5 will whine loudly in reverse if you go fast. This is because reverse uses straight cut gears.

Are you sure the whine is not coming from the transmission because if it is it is normal
