I have asked this before, but just need a clear answer and recommendation. Ofcourse the goal is to make more power and try not to waste money on items that are not needed. So where ever i can save will be appreciated.

Goal is to make approx 300-320RWHP, not spend more than $3K from start to finish. I have PI heads on my car right now. What i was thinking was rebuilding the block, not sure how thats done, but i have heard if you change pistons and better valves and such it will net some power. ALso was thinking about cams, which will you recommend? The car is a daily driver, currently has approx 150K miles.

This is what i was looking at...

Will i need anything else if i get that? do i resuse the heads on my car, along with getting a better cam?

Another question, is it worth getting the heads port and polish to stage 3? they are claiming an additional 35HP, costs $750,is that accurate

Bottom end would consist of crank, rods, pistons, rings, main/rod/cam bearings, oil pump, timing set, seals (will be included in complete engine gasket set). Many choices in beefing up the bottom end are out there. Just need to research for your costs. If staying cheap is the goal, rings and valves would be the minimum. Just the increase in compression from new rings and valves will give you some gains. If the pistons, rods and crank look good then you can save there.

Get a good streetable cam. I have Comp 262's in my car and it has a nice idle without running issues.

THanks for the tip CO, i will do some more researt, would definatly like to save where i can. I noticed you make 240hp and 273tq with NPI, so with stage 3 PI heads and new valves and such, will 300hp be possible?

98cobra, thanks for the link. wow, that looks really good. how much did all the parts cost? wher u buy them from. how much power do you anticipate to get with the rebuild?

i found the block locally for $100, got the crank from ebay $50 shipped, $50 to polish the crank, pistons for $60 shipped, rods $175 shipped, rings $100, clevelite rod and main bearing $170, frpp oil pump $55, windage tray $50, main bolts from ford and "oil pick up spacer" $70, i think thats everything:scratch:...

how much power do i anticipate? i not realy sure, well just have to wait and find out:p

Given your budget. I would look for a reasonably low mileage good shape Mark VIII engine, take your PI heads and either drop them on as is or get a valve job or get a pair of ported PI heads and some aftermarket cams. You would hit your goal of 300RWHP fairly easily and drop a good 50-75lbs off the nose of the car.

Plus as an added bonus if you ever decide to step it up and build a power adder engine you now have a teksid block under the hood, which is a great foundation.

Mustang92, What are the specs of a Mark VIII block? Is it 2V?
I would definately do a stage3 port and polish on heads and get get a good cam as suggested.
You have to drill out the driver side coolant passage on the 4v blocks. I recommend spending a few dollars on the cams and get a custom ground cam. I have regretted my comp 262 cams for years.

is there work done to the heads if not get them cnc ported and w/ the pi heads on the mark vIII it will prob net you about 11-11.2:1 compresion wich is still pump gas and great for nitrous:D. i also found a 5.1 forged stroker kit for about 1500 if i can remeber right

So where is the best place to find the Mark VIII block besides the junkyard? Does everything bolt right up? I am not sure if the heads i have now are winsor or romeo, does that make a difference on the teksid block? Any other customization necessay with the teksid block and my GT? I am definately getting a cnc stage 3 port and polish on the heads. So how can i get a custom grind cam, who does those? How much are the Mark VIII block going for? Once i get one, what can i do to it to increase even more power since it will be out of the car?
