Received parkway performance headswap - heads damaged (pics galore)

Well guys, received my headswap kit from parkway performance. To my dissapointment, there is damage, albeit slight (I hope).

The heads were shipped in seperate Ford Racing boxes, and then combined into a larger brown box. The brown box had an obvious tear in it and some metal exposed, so out came the camera.

The damage is on the out edge facing the center of the engine, closest to the firewall. It looks like where the intake manifold would bolt to the heads themselves.

I've included some pics for reference.

I've asked parkway what they suggest / recommend, but I'm also looking for some expertise here too. If this is going to cause an issue down the road, I'd rather address now vs. having to buy new gaskets, bolts, etc and disassemble / reassemble later on.

Joe at Parkway has been great thus far, so I hope everything works out in the end.

there was nothing wrapped around the heads? I bubble wrap the crap out of my stuff then put them in the box. Send them back if your not 100% sure!

No bubble wrap for the heads, only intake. The heads shipped in their own box, with a single sheet of paper wrapped around them. Then the 2 heads were placed into the large brown box. There's about 1.5-2 inches of play between the box size for the heads, and the overall brown shipping box.

Too funny - the 3 stangnet guys I wanted replies have already chimed in. Appreciate the helps guys.. I've settled down a bit and I think it is definitely fixable with a bit of light filing / RTV'ing..

Damn, I thought if you drop $1300 on a head swap they should atleast ship the stuff safely

$3 of bubble wrap would have saved a lot of headaches; still waiting for a response from parkway

They come from Ford boxed like that, all parkway does is distribute them

just keep calling them, what they do is ask you what the damage is, then you take pics, email the pics to them, then (if their that bad) they will ship new ones out with a call tag (return ship slip) ground ship

Do you have a macro feature on your camera? It'd be much easier to see those closeup pics if you turned macro on first. By the looks of it, doesn't look like there's anything too horrible.. but why do all the work to find out there was a gouge you missed or something.

I'll try this again.. managed to get my hands on my girlfriends camera.

I've had a good look at the heads, and there doesnt seem to be any other damage.

I did notice though after taking stock of what's in the boxes that the new alternator bracket did not come with any new bolts - is this correct? Parkway's site indicates that it should come with bolts

They are damaged enough that I would send them back. If they hit that hard, there may be some hairline cracks that you can not see.

ALWAYS, check for damage before you sign for anything!! Technically, unless specified in the purchase agreement or the parts were insured, Parkway Ford really isn't responsible.The damage however doesn't look serious so you'll be OK. Looks like Mr. USPS dragged across some cement/pavement.

I wasn't home to receive them, otherwise there woulda been hell to pay. Apparently the UPS delivery girl was about 5'6" and maybe 150lbs.. and she rolled the boxes to get them off of the truck onto the dolley

Spoke to Joe at Parkway and he's looking at the pics. He was very apologetic and sincere, which is always appreciated. He'll let me know what to do once he's reviewed the pictures.

I think the damage isn't critical, but tough to tell if there is other damage that isn't visible to the naked eye.

I have pictures of the damaged box before even opening it, so hopefully it won't be an issue with UPS.

More to come I guess...

It wouldn't hurt to call UPS and let them know.
If you can get new ones, then I'd say go for it but if you can't, I don't think using them would be a problem.

those heads would work ok as long as you smooth out the gasket surface on the edge there.. but I would try to get new ones if you can

this is not always ture. once you open the box some carriers will not take it back without a call tag wich requires you to deal with the seller. like with ups for example you must refuse it before you open it. once you open it they will not take it back without a call tag.

I know sometimes truck frieght will let you examine stuff though.

That sucks. I would think Parkway will replace them. You shouldn't have to deal with the shipper they decided to use. Enough Mustanger's out there that I would think they wouldn't want any bad publicity.
