there doesn't appear to be much damage to structural metal. my opinion is to lightly flush the raised areas with a grinder and chase the hole to insure proper torque. not real critical areas. check for flush with a good machinist straight edge and feeler gauge. light passes.

Better pictures only revealed the problem .. kinda hoping you were over reacting. Yeah, I'd let everyone involved know the problem.

Thanks again guys. Waiting to see what parkway says.

Now I just spent 2.5hrs getting the passenger side NPI head off of the car. Turns out my MAC longtubes are preventing the heads from coming out when attached to the headers. So I had to fiddle forever to get the 8 bolts off. Now the LT's won't slide out through the engine bay, or come out through the bottom of the car... transmission is in the way. This means that I will either need a tow to shop who will drop my k-member and install just the heads for me, or I press on and try to install the new heads with the LT's stuck in place...

Anyone wanna buy a broken 97GT????????? x100

I agree with the guys that say to send them back... sure there is some visible damage, but there could be something you aren't seeing that could pose a huge problem after the install is done. You spent 1300 bux for the kit, the least they could do is send you unharmed parts

I ship 100's of packages wth UPS a month and this is not an un-common problem wth them. we wont even ship certian items wth them anymore. I've had to increase rates to customers (on my end) so we can insure shipments wth UPS now, because of damage claims from careless handling.

now in your case, that damage is not that bad and I would not have a problem in using that cyl head. now if Joe will work wth you on re-placment head, then go for-it.

I would return the ASAP. In fact I would call UPS now and tell them to come pick them up because your refusing the shipment, especialy if you never signed for them. Let UPS handle the damage claim since they are responsible. Yeah you'll be without the new heads for a while but if you install them and they damage something else on your car it's likely you'll be on your own paying to fix it because you installed known damaged goods on the car. Not worth it. Aluminum is soft and that drop looks hard enough to have bent something bad enough that personaly I would'nt risk it unless you have money to burn on replacement parts and repair work if they fail.

I would have UPS replace the heads under their insurance, and the shop should just send you new ones.

Both places are at fault.

1. Should have been packed better.
2. UPS should have treated it a little better.

I would not install them, but that is just me.

unless the shipper (Parkway Ford) insured the heads, UPS will only pay up-to $100.00 on damage claims, so it all falls back to the shipper. been there, got burned by UPS, done that. they do not look bad and aluminum is rather soft and can absorb light blows that would crack iron heads

Ups also has minimum packing requirements even if they were fully insured. If ford or parkway violate them they will deny the claim in which case it would be up to parkway to help you out. if you ship ups you should package the thing to be dropped. the boxes shift inside the trucks. sh$t happens.

I think it sucks but I don't see any damage that would prevent me from installing. I don't see anthing that would cause any issues as long as you don't leave a raised surface. just make sure the area is filed or ground flat and you wont have any issues IMO.

After a lot of debate and back-and-forth in my mind, I've decided not to install the heads. I could have bought damaged goods off of ebay for next to nothing, but instead I decided to go with a reputable place and pay good money. I want what I paid good money for.

Parkway was again really apologetic and has filed a claim with UPS. UPS now has to come out and review the product and packaging to determine who was at fault. After much debate w/ the UPS lady, she finally shared some of the shipping guidelines with me (why was this so hard to get out of her, I don't know...). I suspect that since there was no styrofoam or bubble wrap, the supplier will be at fault even with shipping insurance... but we'll see.

UPS said that the product must able to withstand 'rolling' onto the dolly, as the delivery ppl cannot lift anything exceeding 70lbs. She also said some UPS conveyor belts are over a mile long, and parcels can drop onto the conveyor at any time.

I really hope this turns out ok for me. As I said, Joe at Parkway has been real nice and sincere, so I have total trust in their customer service.

I'll keep posting updates here, as I really appreciate all the support and feedback.

After many, many calls to UPS to complain, I finally got the email address of the claims manager assigned to Parkway's damage claim.

I submitted the photos I've been taken of my damaged heads to the claims manager at UPS along with the pictures of the box before it was even opened, and Joe from Parkway called me this morning w/ some good news...

Looks like they are awarding the insurance claims to Parkway! No idea what dollar value, but as long as I get new heads, I'm happy.

I just want to re-state that Joe has been great through all of this... if you are considering buying from Parkway, those guys really care about their reputation and customer satisfaction.

Hope I can give you guys another update in 2 weeks with the car up and running

Glad to hear things are looking up!! I also purchased my headswap kit from Parkway and was very happy with everything! Great communication and fast shipping.
