Look for any leaks at any of the connections. A leak will be a bit oily because the oil charge escapes with the refrigerant. If you do not see any leaks, hook up a 134a gauge set to see how it is operating and how much refrigerant is in the system.
There may be a YouTube video that can show you how to use the gauges.
I'm not on this forum enough to know who is where but there may be a forum member in the Dallas/Ft Worth area with AC experience that could help you.

To recharge it, you'll need a set of manifold guages, a good vacuum pump, and a scale to weigh your cans. DO you know what the system capacity is?
