Recommend new tires (all seasons)

I need to buy new tires for the 97. They have to be ALL SEASON and cost less than 150$ per tire. I'll be buying 245-45-17s for the stock 17" wheels.

My current worn out tires are Yokohama Avid H4S... AA traction, 500 treadwear and 120$ each. My only complaint with these tires is treadwear. I've only gotten 25k miles from them and I'm on the wear bars. It may have something to do with the 24 timeslips I collected, with repeated 3500rpm launches. Anyway, I need a tire that has good traction in dry and wet conditions, decent treadwear and I like a stiffer sidewall for better steering feel. They have to be all season tires because we do get snow and I have to drive in it.

Tell me what you recommend and why.

i roll around with Zeon ZPT's.

the tread life is amazing. i dont do burnouts however.

i travel to and from college which is a 3 hr drive each way. gone through the snow and rain. theyre great tires. they might not be the best but they make me happy

I recently bought Nitto Extreme Performance NT555 255/40-17. From AmericanMuscle.com, they have the 245/45-17s listed at $122 a piece.

I went from the 245/45-17 stock tires to the Nitto 255/40-17s, and man, the difference was unbelievable. I have an auto, and when I launched, the old ones would start spinning over at around 1800 rpm. These ones don't start spinning until almost 2200 rpm. And then, they hook. Period. I have better traction with these tires in the rain than I did with my old ones in dry conditions. Now, whether this extra traction was due to the new, better tire or the extra cm. of tire, . How they will hold up with your cars power, I also can't say. But for my mostly stock 98GT, I love them.

As far as treadwear, I can't say just yet. I have about 10,000 miles on them, and they still look great. But I have not been doing burnouts or anything like that, so I'm not sure how they will hold up in those conditions.

One thing about the 255/40-17s though. The front tires do stick out just a slight amount more than the stockers did, and I expected that. It's not even enough to notice, but they do tend to throw mud/water on the side of the car. Not too bad, but they do do it. But you said you're going 245/45-17s, so you shouldn't have to worry bout this.

I checked and the NT555 is a summer tire.

I'm down to 4 tires now. The Goodyear Eagle GT, the Yoko W4S or H4S, and the BFG G-force sport A/S. I'm leaning more towards the Goodyear Eagle because it is a bit cheaper than the others. The BFG is quite a bit more expensive than the others, so I'm leaning away from it.

I run the Eagle GTs on my DD('06 Civic Si). Very pleased with them. Have excellent grip wet or dry and not bad in light snow or icy conditions. They are light years ahead of the Michelin MXM4s that came on it from the factory. Have good reviews on tirerack. I have about 5K miles on them and no complaints.

i would vote for the goodyear eagle gt, but go with the 255/45/17 it will look a little bit better on the rim (hell thats what 94-95 cobras came with factory) and give you better summer traction while sacrificing only slightly in the winter.

I was leaning towards the Eagle GT. It seems very comprable to the Yokohama H4S, which I know was a good tire. I kinda want to try it just because I like goodyear and I don't want to repeat the same thing again. I've never bought the same tires twice. lol

I was giving though to a 255-45-17. It would help fill the wheel wells too. However, it looks like the Eagle GT isn't offered in that size... only 255-40-17 which would look bad.

the Kuhmo Ecsta ASX is a failrly decent tire, and its a good price. they tend to run a bit wider than other brands so i think a 255/45/17 would look pretty good on your car
