I'm fairly certain I blew the engine in my 89 GT today and I don't think I'm going to attempt the rebuild myself so I was wondering if anyone could recommend a reliable shop in the Danbury, CT 06810 area? The engine isn't stock, well..the bottom end might be. A previous owner built it as a street/track car in Florida so it has a bunch of aftermarket parts (I'll list some below). I'd like to have the engine rebuilt with strong components and maybe even add power if possible.

Since the owner who raced the car was the owner who sold the car to the person I bought it from the engine's history is unclear.

Here is what I know:

Trickflow Track Heat top end. Aluminum heads, cam, upper and lower intake. 70mm throttle body, no heat, AC, smog pump. I assume it has bigger fuel injectors but I do not know for sure. It seemed pretty sorted prior this most recent.....setback.

It's got that very distinctive knocking sound coming from the engine. No oil leaking out anywhere but I could feel the power drop when it happened. I don't beat on the car at all, it has seemed to be running just fine these last few months and when it happened I was just pulling away from a stop sign in 1st gear at about 10mph.

Can you post a video? Almost sounds like a top end issue. The bottom end on these cars damn near last forever

Oh yeah that's not good. Check your balancer. That may give you a clue as to what happened.

It seems to be consistent whether I've got my foot on the clutch or not. The car was in neutral in that video. I'm hesitant to rev the engine at this time of night (because of my neighbors) to see if it speeds up but I can try that tomorrow.

Don't rev it up. Like I said on the other post you have, start by yank'n a valve cover on the side the noise is come'n from and look for broken spring or stuck valve. Then we can go from there.
