Hello all, about 2 months ago I bought an 88 GT fox and have gone through and been slowly putting money into her running into the usual problems I hear about and have had little issue with the car so far. Today I was driving the car down a stretch of road I always enjoy and punched it in 2nd till around 5k rpm I then clutched in and went to shift but the car I then noticed was still accelerating and bounced off the limiter for a sec and then stopped suddenly. I put the car into 3rd and figured I had just accidentally touched the gas pedal. Later on a similar accident happened when I was half throttle approached a turn clutched to downshift and again it decided to bounce off the redline for a 1-2 secs and then went to normal idle, this time I was sure I didn't touch. The gas and a little smoke came from the air vents I let the engine cool and turned around to go home with no more issue. Gas pedal didn't stick in gear so I don't see how it could be the cable thought I would ask for some advice as I am not the most mechanically knowledgeable and this is the car I am learning on. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

If you are not mechanically savy and and troubleshoot i suggest taking it to a mechanic. Sounds like a cable issue maybe even a floor mat but whos to tell. Take it to your favorite garage

Could certainly be a throttle cable that is getting bound up. I remember driving a Windstar van once and having the cruise control cable cause the throttle to stick partially open. I don't know if that is possible on the Mustang, however. Like many others, I have had my floor mat pin the throttle to the floor, so if you have them make sure they are trimmed up and keep them secured.

It doesn't take much throttle to bounce the car off the limiter in Neutral or with the clutch pushed in, so even a little bit of sticking could cause what you are experiencing.

Hmm the cruise control thing is interesting thanks for the input I don't think the floor mats caused it but can't be sure, today I took them out and took the car out to try to replicate the scenario with no luck which is good but at the same time I would love to know the reason for sure. I beleive I mislead the first commenter a little I myself am mechanally inclined although I lack experience in cars l have alot of experience building streetbikes and although some of that experience applys to cars its always nice getting a second opinion haha somethings are very similar and some are completely alien to me.
