Redline Tuning Hood-Struts

I've had the Redlines on my car for over a year now. No problems so far although I need to lube them with something as they have a squeak to them now.

Had mine on for almost 3 years, no squeaks... I dunno what you'd lube em with... maybe some white lithium or clear snow plow spray grease?

That is what I was thinking...but I think they are sealed. Not sure why they make noise...not a biggie though.

I've had mine installed since last Christmas and actually installed a set on my ex-gf's eclipse yesterday on my day off. They are cake to put in, just drilling and riveting. I have the black ones and her mom bought her the elite kit, but I like both equally. The eclipse set happened to be all riveting, which made it easier than the screws in the mustang kit, but each one took less than an hour to put in. Just make sure you measure carefully.

For the people that have squeaky struts, how are they mounted? Is the piston side down and the body on top? If not, the struts are not getting proper lubrication. I had mine installed upside down for a while and they didn't function properly, i.e. the hood wouldn't slow down at max extension. I flipped them over one day and everything worked perfectly.

been googling around looking at the MRT ones now

aside from the no-drilling aspect....there does appear to be one major benefit (for me anyway)

lots of clearance....they're literally tucked right back at the base of the hood when it's up

from a detailing perspective, it looks to be a hell of a lot easier with the MRT's

the underside of my new hood will be show quality with some custom air-brushing....so I'm gonna be detailing/polishing the underside of the hood as much as the top....let alone the clearance issues getting my paws in there to detail the motor and firewall etc

I have the MRT's and love them. I too was torn between the Redline's and MRT's. The thing that sold me on the MRT's is that they are a lot more compact (don't take up much room under the hood) and it required no drilling. Here is a picture of mine.

Safe to assume from some of the posters that the MRT ones will work with 94 to 98 models? Evern with an aftermarket hood?

I dunno about that. The Redlines would be more versitile.

MRT relies on the location of a fender bolt. However it has nothing to do with the hood as it slips in on the hood mount.

__Thought we would chime in since noticing this thread. First, we chose mounting locations for the hood and fender that best fit the 'function' of the lifting process. When fully open, the hood will not move - solid as a rock. There won't be any sloppiness to the finished assembly and the hood will raise and hold as it should because of where the gas springs mount. Our competition adds a large extension bracket to the hinge to get the mounting location as far up the hood as possible - we feel our location promotes even better function. Neither are rocket science, but it is all in the details.

__Gas springs should always be mounted with the large housing up, extending strut down unless otherwise specified in our manuals - this allows the gas spring to be lubricated when opening and will eliminate the squeek. Basically, using the product will keep it working perfectly.

I have the Redline basic struts for over 4 years now and no issues other than squeaking. I'll turn the strut upside down though so it'll lube it and hopefully they will go away.

I am VERY pleased with my struts and they haven't lost any "pressure" and hold the hood up fine.
